COLD AND FLU HOME REMEDY

Updated: Oct 7, 2021

Over the years since our children were young, prayers and home remedy is always our first option. Our basic cold and flu fighters are lemons, oranges, grapefruits, ginger, garlic, onions and raw honey plus some herbs extracts. This year, during this pandemic, I learned and considered adding some fresh herbs. This 5 Liter jar took me roughly 3 hours because of washing the ingredients thoroughly with natural soap to avoid the contamination, air dry them, separating the herbs from the stems, extracting the juice, blending, straining and storing. Some people says, "who has all that time to make this? My husband's reply is, "it's worth it, it's good for us and it will keep us all from getting sick by God's grace".

Recently, we had been exposed to some friends who became positive with the on going virus. The naturopath doctor who were with us that time told us, that if all of a sudden we feel something scratchy in our throat, headaches or any symptoms, we should consider it as the virus attacking us, then do something right away to fight it. So that was the beginning of this concoction. So many people are dying and getting sick and I hope and pray that this simple remedy will become the daily booster for our immunity and prevent us all from getting sick.

Genesis 1:29 KJV "And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."

Exodus 15:26 KJV And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.

Note: Air drying the ingredients is very important, if you are planning to store it in the refrigerator for over a week, otherwise go ahead and just wash them thoroughly then whip them up!

Note: This recipe makes 5 liters, just cut it in half to make a small portion.

Ingredients:

Extracted citrus fruits: 7 grapefruits, 12 oranges and 15 lemons

- Wash all the citrus fruits with gentle liquid soap, rinse thoroughly and dry them with paper towel or air dry them if possible.

- Extract all the citrus fruits in a juicer

Fresh herbs: 0.5 oz pack of each - sage, oregano, rosemary, thyme, mint or eucalyptus

- Wash and rinse all the herbs thoroughly and dry them with paper towel then air dry them as much as possible.

- separate the herbs or leaves from the stem

Other ingredients:

1 bulb of large organic garlic, peeled

8-10 oz of ginger (about 3 large pieces), peeled and sliced

1 large red onion, peeled and sliced

1 small fresh horse radish, peeled and chopped (optional, but recommended if sick)

1 1/2 pint raw honey.

Instructions:

In a blender, add all the herbs and other ingredients except honey.

Add some of the citrus juice up to the 3/4 level of the blender or enough to cover the ingredients. Blend until it's all broken down.

Pour and store preferably in a glass jar with lid.

Add the rest of the citrus juice and raw honey in the jar and stir with wooden spoon.

Note: Avoid using metal utensils because it reacts on highly acidic citrus juices

Stir the mixture before use and strain it after 3-5

If sick: Strain about 1/2 cup and take every 1-2 hours

and for prevention, 1/2 cup 2 times a day 1 hour before meal

Store and cover with lid and keep it refrigerated.

- It can be taken the day after making it, but it is more potent after 2-3 days or longer

- Can be kept in the refrigerator for a month, but make sure to wash and dry the ingredients completely because water can cause to spoil the mixture. If you're planning to consume it within a week, there's no need to dry it completely.

- taste varies on how much honey you added

Fresh eucalyptus and horse radish is not available in our area, so I am planning to buy the eucalyptus plant and the horse radish through Amazon next time I make this again.

Disclaimer: Ask your physician before taking this remedy, because even though they are all natural, sometimes it interferes if you're taking medications or if there's an on going health problem.
